Description
AK Napoleon Megacrew is a 40-strong dance group based in Budapest.
Through their performances, they convey a powerful message, tell a story or offer social commentary every year.
They have been competing with these performances for almost 10 years in the World Of Dance American dance association’s competitions, which attract the world’s best hip-hop and contemporary dancers.
Among the Napoleon Megacrew’s most recent achievements are
they achieved the honourable 1st place in Berlin in 2023 and in Kraków in 2024 (with a record score), and received the Best Theme special award at this highly prestigious and high-calibre event.
This means they have now earned the right, for the first time in our country’s history, to represent Hungary as a Hungarian dance group at the World of Dance USA finals held in Los Angeles.
The team includes dancers of all ages, ranging from 14 to 43 years old; many of them are professional dancers, though over the years there have been several who earned their living in fields unrelated to dance. As was mentioned in an interview on Kossuth Radio, this group comprises people of different ages, weights, skin colours, family situations and professions (psychologist, barista, marketer, confectioner, student, shop assistant, lawyer, hairdresser, etc.), so we believe they are well-suited to represent our country.
Their leader is Barbara Börczi, who has been trying for 20 years to bring an artistic message to the sometimes cold, sometimes competitive world of hip-hop, and has recently been quite successful in doing so.
Fundraising is not the group’s strong point; so far they have managed entirely on their own without sponsors, but as a trip to the US involves significant costs, and many are still students or supporting themselves and their families on their own – this is why they are turning to the general public for help.
If you like what AK does, or if you think it’s important for a Hungarian team to make it to World Of Dance in the US – a first in the history of Hungarian hip-hop, and with a 44-strong line-up at that – then we’d be grateful for your donation.🤍
