What happened to us?

We were an average, happy family with 2 little kids.

But last May, something terrible happened...

My husband had a motorcycle accident, which required life-saving surgery, followed by 8 months of rehabilitation. It wasn't his fault, the accident was caused by a road defect.

He was paralyzed from the chest down, and now he's in a wheelchair.

Why we are asking for financial help?

We live in a two-unit apartment building, on the top floor, with lots of stairs. The renovations to allow him to get out into the yard would require a lot of money. And besides that, we would have to change a lot of things, for example:

• bathroom
• toilet
• kitchen
• electric door for the garage
• electric gate for the garden
• converting the car to be hand driven, etc.,

we could solve these things,

but the fact that there are 38 steps leading up to the front door is another matter, and we are asking for your help with this! Unfortunately, a stair lift or any other elevator is not an option, as it would require the permission of the person living below us and would cost a lot of money to build.

A stair-climbing wheelchair is also not an option, as there are two full stairs leading up, one of which is wooden and would be dismantled by the stair climber.

We'we explored all our options regarding this, but there's no good solution.

We have a loan of around 100 000 euros on our hosue, and since we would have to remodel a lot of things, we would rather decide, if we had the opportunity, to repay the loan to the bank, then sell this house, and buy a ground-floor house, where the conditions are better for us. Especially for my husband.

We can't move until our loan is paid off.

What will happen when we raise the money?

• sell our current house
• buy the new house
• move!
