  • What we're doing?

We are in contact with local authorities and organizations operating in the field to address current needs, while also ensuring that those who will have to return to devastated apartments and flooded houses are not left without support. So far, we have focused on the residents of Żelazno, Trzebieszowice, Lądek Zdrój, Stójkowo, Skrzynka, Ołdrzychowice, Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, and Lewin Brzeski, as well as smaller towns in the Lewin Brzeski municipality.

Initially, we provided food and water. Currently, we are concentrating on delivering equipment to help clear the damage and clean up the environment. Recent purchases include rubble bags, wellington boots, gloves, water containers, brushes, and cloths. Shovels, buckets, rubbish bags, and disinfectant fluids are urgently needed.

In some villages, the scale of damage is enormous, and residents will need support long after the water has receded. “They will need cleaning supplies and basic household items. We will not abandon those affected,” says Maciej Bagiński, President of PAH.

Description

Due to the disastrous floods and severe damage in the South of Poland, we will provide urgent, immediate aid and support to people affected by the cataclysm. It’s yet another time we have responded to such a flood in Poland.

We ask for financial support and solidarity with the people whose households and belongings were damaged during the catastrophe.

The situation in southern Poland is tragic, especially in the Lower Silesian, Opole, and Silesian Voivodeships. Broken bridges, damaged or overflown dams, and massive amounts of rainwater led to enormous losses in many towns. The weather still hasn’t stabilized – even more rainfall and rising river levels due to the violent downpours in Czechia are yet to come.

Pictures and videos from many towns in the affected region are tragic – says Helena Krajewska, PAH’s spokesperson – Now is the time to unite, just as we did in 1997, and help those affected the most by the cataclysm.

We allocated half a million złotys to cover the most urgent aid – we are in touch with the local government and organizations working in the field to respond to the current needs and not to leave those who will have to return to destroyed apartments and flooded houses without help.

The tragedy of the affected people will not end with the lowering water levels – Maciej Bagiński, PAH’s president, says – They will need hygiene products, basic household goods, and financial assistance. We will not leave them on their own.

Polish Humanitarian Action proved more than once that it can efficiently help flood victims in Poland. In 1997, during the „flood of the millennium”, we gave out blankets, sleeping bags, medicine, and food, and, afterward, we repaired damaged buildings, including schools, children’s homes, and local social organizations. After the floods in 2001 and 2010, we provided basic products and supported residents and institutions in repairing and cleaning buildings.

The situation is very dynamic, the needs might change at any time – we will keep you informed about the developments.
