Suffered Parents of the Childcare Surcharge Affair: Working Together for a Better Future
The childcare allowance affair deeply affected thousands of families in the Netherlands. For years, parents were falsely accused of fraud by the tax authorities, resulting in them having to pay back benefits wrongly received. This led to serious financial problems, loss of trust in the government and permanent psychological problems. Many of them are still struggling to get their lives back on track.
Although the government has put compensation schemes in place, in practice these are not always adequate. Many parents are still waiting for settlement or do not receive sufficient support to actually recover. Besides financial compensation, there is a need for emotional support and a sense of community. Organising meetings where victims can meet, share experiences and support each other is crucial for the recovery process.
To make these initiatives possible, financial support is needed. This includes costs for venue hire, catering and materials for workshops and therapy groups. In addition, funds are needed for individual psychological help, as not all parents dare to seek help or have the means to pay for it.
Previous initiatives have shown a great willingness to help. For instance, in December 2019, a Christmas campaign was launched for victims, in which 22,000 euros was already raised within a short time. Several crowdfunding campaigns have also been launched to support victims.Â
We call on everyone to contribute to a new fundraising campaign aimed at supporting these parents. With your donation, we can organise meetings, offer psychological help and make sure these families get the support they deserve. Let's work together for a better future for those affected by the benefits affair.
