The situation is currently difficult.
Aki is ill; he has several tumours that are no longer operable. Medication is intended to give him a pain-free and, hopefully, longer life.
Kaya, at 13 years old, is becoming increasingly demented, and we need to alleviate her pain from conditions such as osteoarthritis and the like.
This might have been manageable, but the little rescue dog Paule (also called Balu by Matteo) has now effectively come to stay. He is helping to ease the emotional pain that the humans are currently, sadly, experiencing, and is doing Kaya and, above all, Aki a world of good. The cost of acquiring him (animal welfare adoption fee, supplies, vet check-up, etc.) is almost impossible to cover.
