Description

Help us find and protect sea turtle nests

Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta ) also choose the beaches of the province of Massa Carrara to lay their eggs. It is an extraordinary event, but also an extremely delicate one: the tracks left in the sand can disappear within a few hours due to people walking on them, vehicles passing over them or the wind.

That is why volunteers from WWF Massa Carrara are out at dawn every day, monitoring kilometres of coastline in search of the distinctive tracks that lead to the nests. Spotting a nest in the early hours is crucial to securing it and ensuring the hatchlings can emerge safely.

To make this monitoring even more effective, we need a drone.

A drone would allow us to:

  • quickly monitor large stretches of beach without disturbing the environment;
  • spot the tracks left by the turtles more easily;
  • take prompt action to protect the nests;
  • document our monitoring activities and raise awareness amongst local residents and tourists about the importance of protecting this species.

Every contribution, however small, can make a difference. With your help, we will be able to purchase a drone that will become a vital tool for our volunteers’ work and for the conservation of sea turtles along the Apuano-Versilian coast.

Supporting this fundraising campaign means making a tangible contribution to the protection of our sea’s biodiversity and offering a safer future for the next generations of Caretta caretta.

Together, we can protect a unique natural heritage. Thank you so much for your support!
