Wolf FRANK’s “Moments of Happiness” – Music with ❤️ for people in retirement and care homes

Many older people in care homes suffer from loneliness, illness or a lack of joy in life.

With my passion project “Moments of Happiness”, I want to give precisely these people special moments filled with music, warmth, humour and humanity. 🥰

I am Wolf FRANK, a professional entertainer in Austria since 1989. For many years, I have made a point of performing in retirement and care homes – often for a fraction of my usual fee – because I see how much joy and quality of life music can bring there.

It is a moving experience when people who were previously quiet and withdrawn suddenly start singing along, smiling, clapping or visibly blossoming once more. Music touches hearts – even where words often fail to reach them. ❤️

Unfortunately, many facilities have very little budget for such events.

That is precisely why I launched the ‘Moments of Happiness’ project:

👉 With your support, you make music and entertainment afternoons possible for people who would otherwise often be unable to afford such experiences.

Every donation helps to fund performances, equipment, travel, and set-up and dismantling – so that this project can continue in the long term and reach many more people.

Alongside my artistic work, I have been volunteering for social projects and people in need for decades. That is precisely why this initiative is particularly close to my heart.

🙏 Please help us to bring joy, warmth and moments of genuine happiness to others.

A heartfelt THANK YOU for your support!

Of course, I will be reporting regularly on the project and its impact.

Scientifically proven effects of music and humour on older and unwell people

Music and humour are now among the most significant non-pharmacological measures for promoting quality of life, emotional well-being and social engagement in older and frail people. Numerous scientific studies demonstrate the positive effects, particularly in cases of dementia, Parkinson’s disease, depression, loneliness and chronic illnesses.

Particularly for people in care homes and nursing homes, music, communal singing, rhythm, positive emotions and humorous interactions can trigger remarkable reactions: people begin to smile again, sing along, move, make contact or ‘thaw’ emotionally.

Positive effects on dementia

Studies show that music-based interventions can reduce depressive symptoms and improve behaviour, mood and quality of life in people with dementia. It is particularly noteworthy that musical memories often remain intact for longer than other types of memory. Even people with advanced dementia often react emotionally to familiar melodies and songs.

Observations in care homes also show that music can trigger immediate positive reactions – including increased attention, smiling, relaxation, social openness and moving to the music.

Studies also suggest that regular group music-making and singing can promote cognitive, emotional and social skills.

Positive effects in Parkinson’s disease

Scientific research shows that music and rhythm can have a positive influence on motor functions in people with Parkinson’s disease. Rhythmic musical stimuli help many sufferers to coordinate their movements better and perform them more fluidly. At the same time, music and shared experiences have a positive effect on mood, motivation and social participation.

Effects on the mind, emotions and well-being

Music activates numerous regions of the brain simultaneously – including emotional, motor and language centres. This can evoke memories, stimulate emotions and reduce social isolation. Scientific studies also show positive effects on stress reduction, relaxation, sleep quality and general well-being.

Humour complements this effect perfectly: laughter can reduce stress hormones, foster social closeness and relieve emotional tension. Particularly among older people, humorous encounters often create moments of light-heartedness, dignity and human connection.

Why projects such as ‘Moments of Happiness’ are so valuable

The combination of music, humour, personal interaction and shared experiences can reach people who often feel lonely, withdrawn or burdened by illness. Through such events, many residents of retirement and care homes experience moments of genuine joy, activity and emotional closeness once again.

“Glücksmomente” aims to provide precisely such precious moments – scientifically grounded, deeply moving and delivered with all our hearts. ❤️
