Mushroom-based materials are among a class of biotechnologies showing promise in vastly offsetting the impact of the short lifespans of buildings in the modern era, therefore reducing global pollution by reducing waste in reusing it. In their most common form, fibers such as straw or woodchip sourced from agriculture or forestry material streams are bound together with an entangled web of mycelia, the root-like structures of the mushroom. Commonly known as “myco-materials”, they are produced similarly to commercial mushroom farming, and can be composted at end-of-life.

Our company seeks to repurpose an out-of-service farm to an industrial production plant for mushroom-based building materials, such as Myco-Bricks, wall insulation panels possessing fireproof properties, as well as expand over time into a company which could build carbon-negative houses around the world.

The purpose for this crowdfunding is for us to be able to start and complete the refurbishing process of the old farm and installation of the myco-lab. This is projected to take 6 months to complete.
