Leoś is 9 years old. He is a very warm boy who wants to have lots of friends during his stays in hospital, but all he has are soft toys :( For 6 years, my son has been suffering from IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) and is being treated for asthma and depression.

He is on a special nutritional supplement called Modulenie, which costs PLN 70.00 per day and is not reimbursed, as reimbursement is only available for Crohn's disease and not for colitis.

He receives a biological drug every 15 days, which is very expensive. The cost of one dose of Entyvio is over PLN 10,000 every 14 days... Leonek has had 8 blood transfusions. Due to his illness, he often becomes anaemic and his blood count is very low. In addition, he has a weakened immune system, which makes him susceptible to any infection and exacerbation of his illness. He has been receiving biological medication for 6 years.(It was Humira, Amgevita) and now a biological drug that we simply cannot afford, costing PLN 20,000 per month :( 

This involves a stay in hospital every two weeks, where he undergoes tests and is given medication that allows him to function and not just be in hospital. Without the medication, we spend months in the gastroenterology ward.

Since last year, our son has been suffering from depression. He often asks why he has to be sick and cries because he cannot be as active as his peers :(
