SUKA OFF is Poland based artist collective founded by Piotr Wegrzynski (visual artist, performer) in 1995, joined by Sylvia Lajbig (classical philologist, performer) in 2003. Over the course of three decades, they have become the most versatile and internationally recognizable artistic group from their region. They have shown their performances at theatre, performance art and music festivals, in galleries, streets and clubs of most European countries, North and South America, China and Japan. They have also created video art, music videos, fashion films, photography, objects and costumes. Their works are in private collections and galleries in Europe, USA and Japan. SUKA OFF created their own unique style by combining elements of visual and physical theater with body art. They mix references to ancient Greek mythology with industrial aesthetics and analog audiovisual techniques. Through their choice of subject matter and means of expression, they often refer to the French Grand Guignol. Searching for alternative and radical forms of communication, based on the connection of living body matter, industrial substances and electronic devices, the creators explore the human body in all its aspects, with a strong emphasis on sexuality as the main drive of this biomachine. At the same time, they attempt to redefine the concept of gender by blurring individual characteristics and codes culturally assigned to man and woman.
