Let’s help Rahabu

Rahabu is a little girl from Tanzania, our niece. She was born with Hirschsprung’s disease and has undergone two difficult operations over the past few months.

Her family paid for the first operation themselves. However, serious complications arose after the procedure and her condition gradually worsened. Eventually, the family were told that she would not survive without another operation.

Rahabu was therefore transferred to a private hospital, where she underwent a second major operation. This was followed by intensive post-operative care, further hospitalisation, medication, infusions and tests.

She came through the operation. Today, Rahabu is at home and recovering.

From the outset, Rahabu’s family did not expect anyone else to pay for her treatment.

They paid for the first operation themselves. When complications arose and further urgent treatment was required, the wider family and people from the local community chipped in. The local Christian community and friends from the Czech Republic also provided significant help.

Thanks to this, they were able to pay for both operations and part of the other expenses.

However, the financial impact of the treatment on the family has not ended. We still need help to cover the costs and debts incurred in connection with intensive and post-operative care, medication, tests, hospitalisation and other expenses related to Rahab’s treatment.

Rahab’s family lives in a dry, rural area of Tanzania off the beaten track. They have no steady income or financial reserves from which they could simply cover such high costs.

Cows, goats and sheep are the family’s source of food and, at the same time, one of their few sources of income, used to buy water, flour for ugali, medicines and other basic necessities. They are therefore not surplus assets that can be disposed of without consequences.

That is why we are seeking help so that the family can manage the costs and debts left over after Rahabu’s treatment without losing the means by which they must continue to live.

Although the fundraising campaign is in euros, donations can also be made in Czech korunas and other currencies.

Every contribution will help the family cope with the financial consequences of the treatment that saved Rahabu’s life.
