Description

‘Protect Inistioge’s Environment’ is a community-based group established to promote informed, balanced and planning led decision making in relation to development proposals affecting Inistioge and its surrounding landscape.

As a community we recognise and support the importance of renewable energy and sustainable development at a National and Local level. With this growth our focus is on ensuring that any development proposed in the Inistioge area is appropriate to its location, scale and setting. With no current updated Renewable strategies or regulations for windfarms in Ireland and looming Renewable targets, we are concerned, as a small village, with these National pressures, where does this position leave us?

Inistioge is a historic village within the Nore Valley, valued for its scenic quality, cultural heritage, and distinctive scenic setting. These characteristics are nationally and internationally recognised as a popular filming location and tourist destination. It is also home to over 280 dwellings and businesses - home for over 1000 residents.

The prospective Curraghmore windfarm by Empower in its proposed location raises significant concerns that it will not adhere to planning policy regulations and will negatively impact Inistioge’s respected identity, environment, economy, and quality of life

All funds raised from this campaign will be used to support the community group efforts.
