Give us a hand to start again: our Marzano needs you

Dear friends,

14 March 2025 was a day that marked our community forever. Marzano, a small hamlet of Borgo San Lorenzo, was swept away by a landslide that took away the roads, the water pipes and, together, a part of our hearts. As luck would have it, there were no victims, but the damage is enormous. Now we are isolated, without water, without a secure future ahead of us.

There are 26 of us, a few families who have lived and worked on this land for generations. Families who produce oil, fodder, chestnuts, who raise sheep, goats, horses and beautiful alpacas. We are tied to this land with our hearts and hands, but today we are in trouble, overwhelmed by devastation. Our roads have collapsed, our activities stopped, our daily life suspended. We also lack breath...

We have historic activities, yet now we are closed, without knowing for how much longer.

- The restaurant L'Aia di Martino, which has been welcoming families and tourists for years,

- The Podere Badia farmhouse, which offers hospitality and beauty to those seeking peace,

- The Alpacabrado alpaca breeding farm, which has introduced many children to our beloved alpacas

- The B&B La Tana dei Ghiri, a cosy refuge for those who love Mugello,

- And Il Belvedere, a corner of paradise where the panorama tells our story.

We are without water for the houses and for the animals. We are without roads, without work, without hope. But what holds us together is our love for our land, our community spirit, and the knowledge that together we can rebuild. We need help, not just to restore a road or a pipe, but to rebuild a community that has always struggled, worked and loved this land.

We cannot do it alone. We need a hand, we need your heart. A shovel and boots are not enough, we need heavy vehicles, material to rebuild, water for the houses, for the animals and for the farms. We need hours of work with excavators, cement, asphalt, gravel, stones... everything we need to restart our future.

We need to restart the reconstruction machine.

We need time that we don't have!
