I recently returned from a trip to Zanzibar and had the opportunity to meet several local people. I used the word 'opportunity' not by chance, since despite the fact that these people have nothing, they have an immense inner wealth and were able to transmit to me every day that serenity that we now struggle to find, as we are increasingly caught up in ourselves and in the continuous pursuit of who knows what great goals to achieve. In particular, I was struck by the look and cheerfulness of a child, Sumaeli, who lives alone with his mother Rose, who has neither a job nor a husband. In those places there is neither an efficient health care system nor a social security system that can guarantee a peaceful retirement in old age. The locals are used to giving birth to many children who, once adults, will provide for their elderly parents. Rose finds herself a widow at the age of 31 with a one-and-a-half year old son to raise, no job and no other resources. Therefore, I have decided to contribute, as much as I can, to her raising with financial support but also by sending basic necessities. I also thought of organising this fundraiser and if you want to help me support this initiative, I invite you to contribute even a small amount.
