We, Dorina and Martin, are launching this fundraising campaign for our mother, Tünde.
Tünde is 52 years old, a loving wife, mother of two children and grandmother to two little girls.
How can you help?
In order to improve our mother’s condition, we would like to explore the option of personalised treatment abroad so that she can remain with us and her grandchildren for as long as possible. Mum is suffering from glioblastoma, which is one of the most aggressive forms of brain tumour. The cost of immunotherapy, including travel, accommodation, tests and treatment, is approximately 100,000 euros, which we are unfortunately unable to raise ourselves.*
Our story in detail
Mum has done everything she can to live a healthy life; she has looked after her physical and mental wellbeing and attended regular screening tests. She has been happily married to our father for 30 years and is a wonderful grandmother; she is the heart and soul of the family, the one who holds us all together. She is always helping everyone, even beyond her own strength. In the summer of 2025, she complained of ringing in her ears, for which she saw a doctor; she then began to suffer frequent headaches, but as she is prone to migraines and these could be relieved, we didn’t think it was anything serious. On 1 September 2025, she woke up with an unrelenting headache; we took her to the A&E department, where an imaging scan revealed a brain tumour, and she underwent life-saving surgery that very evening. The post-operative pathology confirmed our worst fears: Mum is suffering from glioblastoma (giant-cell variant; IDH-wild-type, WHO Grade 4), which is one of the most aggressive types of brain tumour, with very poor survival rates.
Following the operation, she was started on temozolomide (TMZ)-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy in accordance with the STUPP protocol. The TMZ therapy caused her white blood cell and platelet counts to drop to critical levels, so it had to be discontinued.
Her counts did not improve in response to medication, and as a result, she received no treatment for two months.
The subsequent follow-up MRI scan, carried out in the absence of treatment, showed further tumour growth, following which she was started on so-called biological therapy (bevacizumab), supplemented by further radiotherapy. She received this treatment for approximately three months; however, an MRI scan on 20 July revealed a recurrence measuring nearly 61 mm in the area of the previous surgery, necessitating a further operation on 30 July 2026. She has now started an extremely intensive course of treatment consisting of lomustine-based chemotherapy and bevacizumab. Mum is in good physical condition; although she found it a little harder to recover after the second operation, she is fighting hard.
We have been in touch with a professor who is helping to arrange treatment abroad as soon as the necessary funds are raised.
The treatment
Our aim is to access dendritic cell therapy available abroad, which, when combined with standard treatment here at home, increases progression-free survival and overall survival.
