About something you might recognise:

when something is suddenly born from the meeting of two people — hope, curiosity, desire, abandon — and then takes shape, evolves, and slowly unfolds, revealing how they influence one another...

A few years ago, I was sitting at the Szeged Jazz Days, listening to Luca Kézdy play. I wasn’t simply listening to music: a story began to unfold within me, a series of images, one scene flowing into the next. It came to me like a fever dream. I carried that experience within me for years. Then I wrote it down. Now I’d finally like to see it on screen.

And so *Metszetek* became a short film project that offers a visual journey through Luca Kézdy’s unique, unmistakable musical world. A ‘film of feelings’, the story of which burst forth from me under the influence of the music.

What began within me a few years ago, we are now shaping into moving images, after which I will give it back to him so that he can filter it through himself, reflect on it further, and write his own story alongside it in his own language.

It will be a non-verbal experience.

We’ll draw on everything else, just not words.

THE STORY

We arrive at the intersection of two worlds.

Vera is a successful painter living in Budapest who enjoys her freedom and the city’s buzz.

Kornél is a forester and mushroom hunter who has retreated into the tranquillity of the woods and fields, and who struggles every day with himself and his past to find peace in nature.

Two solitary universes.

Two distinct rhythms.

Two people whose paths suddenly cross and who seek common ground.

And perhaps this is precisely the feeling we are all familiar with. Can we truly let the other person in without giving up on ourselves? Where does ‘he’ begin, and where do ‘I’ end? Do we dare to venture into those particular points of intersection, or do we retreat instead? Are we ready?!

*Cross-Sections* also tells of solitude, loneliness, being alone, encounters, and the unhealed wounds we carry within us. It speaks of how we can heal — and also of how we can open ourselves up again. It’s about finding one’s way, hope, self-forgetfulness, self-discovery, self-respect, intention and commitment.

I won’t reveal just yet where Vera and Kornél’s story leads.

IMAGE. MUSIC. PRESENCE.

The misty dawns of the countryside, the vastness and silence of nature, meet the bustling, vibrant, narrow streets of Budapest’s city centre.

Meanwhile, Luca’s violin solos set the rhythm of the scenes, and we bear witness to the creation of a special album.

The film’s visual world is timeless: we work with vintage-style lenses, unique lighting and colours. It is as if we were watching a sequence of images taken with an old camera.

A picture book from someone else’s past. Or is this, in fact, our shared present?

A story which, strangely enough, many of us feel is our own as well.

You may recognise her from leading roles in films such as *The Pipás* (2026), *Ice Cream Can Be Dangerous* (2022) and *Preparing for an Indefinite Time Together* (2020), to name just the best-known ones

Barna Bokor – Kornél

who played Gábor Bethlen in the *Tündérkert* series and is a member of the Tompa Miklós Company at the National Theatre of Marosvásárhely

The film is shot by Director of Photography Gábor Szabó, whose credits include, amongst others, *Random*, *The Martfű Monster*, *Trezor*, *Job’s Rebellion * and *Hide and Seek in the City*.

The film’s set, costume and production designer is Réka Pintér, who , in addition to working on countless TV programmes and shows, and most recently at the Karinthy Theatre, where the play‘Lujza Blaha and the Red Trouser-Maker’ bears the mark of her imagination and craftsmanship.
