Reconstructing a Lyra Viol
Reconstructing a Lyra Viol
What will you fundraise for today?
Description
As a dedicated musician and researcher specializing in the viola da gamba, my current project is to recreate a historically significant instrument: the Lyra Viol from 1600s London. This unique instrument was played in the court of Queen Elizabeth I and revolutionized viol playing techniques as well as the music composed for it.
I’ve made significant progress towards funding the instrument, but I now realize that I need some extra support to bring this dream to completion. With this reconstructed Lyra Viol, I’ll be able to explore the distinctive sounds of a fascinating repertoire, closer to how it originally would have been heard.
This has been a dream of mine since 2011, and now I’m closer than ever to making it a reality.
Funds raised will be used to complete the payment for the instrument and to have a custom-made case built, which is essential for transporting and preserving the viol safely.
I deeply appreciate any contribution—no matter the size—that helps bring this project to life.
