Racehorse injured during race, no one held responsible
Racehorse injured during race, no one held responsible
Description
On June 14th, 2025 my horse suffered a severe injury during a race — most likely caused by being cut off or collided with by another rider. Unfortunately, despite the gravity of the incident and serious injuries sustained, the race organizer has been unable to identify the responsible jockey due to insufficient race monitoring and poor quality video footage.
She was immediately hospitalized and underwent extensive diagnostics and medical care: X-rays, ultrasounds, surgical procedures, and follow-up treatments. Beyond her physical injuries, she is now showing signs of post-traumatic stress — sudden behavioral changes and extreme fear reactions while traveling the same route she took to the racetrack and to the veterinary clinic.
I’ve been her breeder and caregiver since birth. She’s always been calm and kind — never aggressive. But now, out of fear, she tried to bolt and even kicked me during a panic episode on the way to the clinic — something that has never happened before.
💬 Why am I asking for help?
I have submitted an official legal letter to the Jockey Club, requesting:
- video documentation of the race,
- information on whether any disciplinary action was taken,
- and clarification of why no investigation was conducted despite clear evidence of serious harm.
Lack of accountability for dangerous riding only encourages repeat offenses — and it’s the animals who suffer the consequences.
- Continued veterinary treatment and rehabilitation,
- Trauma-focused behavioral therapy with equine specialists,
- Legal expenses in pursuing justice and demanding safer racing conditions,
- Advocacy efforts to push for stricter monitoring and enforcement of racing regulations.
💔 This is not the first time a racehorse has been hurt due to negligent riding — but it could be the last, if we start holding people accountable. Horses don’t have a voice — but we do.
