Hello everyone,
I never knew my grandfather. Yet I feel as though I know his story by heart. Throughout my childhood, I listened to my father telling me about the life of this man, this underground miner who left Italy to provide a future for his family, far from his homeland and the sunshine.
Through my father’s stories, this immigrant grandfather has become a protective figure and a mystery to be unravelled. Today, I feel the need to turn these recounted memories into a lived reality. I want to follow in his footsteps, over there in Italy.
My plan is to follow in the footsteps of his roots to close the book of exile and open that of return. I am not going just to visit, but to settle down. I am looking for that little corner of Italy where I can finally put down my bags and say: ‘We have come back’."
