Description
Our organisation helps homeless people who are facing a crisis in their lives. There are currently around 33,000 homeless people in Sweden.
The people who come to us often have very varied backgrounds, with years of homelessness and, in many cases, serious substance abuse problems, and have therefore gradually become excluded from society. This means they do not receive any help from, for example, social services. Consequently, our primary aim is first to ensure that the individual is brought in from the cold to a bed and a hot meal, and then the aim is to reintegrate and include these people so that they can become productive members of society once again. We have been there for several hundred people over the years; we have been able to help when others have not. Good Foundation, located in Gästrike Hammarby, Gävleborg, has been operating for 22 years since 2002. During the pandemic, the organisation was at risk of closure as it was difficult to keep operations running. We took in four families during that period who were Ukrainian refugees. We have now decided to continue our work. We have one full-time employee who mainly handles administrative tasks, whilst the rest of the staff are volunteers. We are a team of skilled professionals, including a doctor, a nurse specialising in psychiatry, and an alcohol and drug therapist. Our operations manager is a pastor and also the founder of GF. We have flats available for the homeless.
