My name is Zdeněk Skála and I am one of Min Gurung customers and long term friends. I would like to geather support for the bone marrow transplantation, that he needs.

I met Min Gurung in 2009, when we arranged for him to be our guide for a trek around Annapurna. On a sixteen-day trek, we found him to be a diligent, reliable and helpful person. This was confirmed on two other treks. We have been exchanging emails since our first trek and we have maintained this contact to this day.

During the 2015 earthquake, many houses in Min’s home village were severely damaged and uninhabitable. Min devotedly helped the residents of this village. With the financial assistance he received from donors from the Czech Republic, Hong Kong and Australia, he ensured the purchase, transport and distribution of food for 110 families, 33 tents for emergency accommodation and corrugated iron for roofs of 26 houses before the monsoon.

The earthquake limited tourism in Nepal for two years and Min did not have enough people interested in trekking. To provide for his family, he found another job, which he lost during the COVID-19 epidemic. So he opened a small vegetable shop, which sells products to people in the neighborhood.

In June last year, his doctor discovered that he had monosomy 7 with myelodysplasia and aplastic anemia, which is a rare congenital disease that manifests itself in a disorder of red blood cell production, and started treatment with cyclosporine and regular blood transfusions. However, Min's condition is not improving, so the doctor recommends a bone marrow transplant. So far, Min has been able to pay for his treatment himself, but the cost of a bone marrow transplant at a hospital in Kathmandu is is too high for him.

Therefore, I am turning to everyone who is not indifferent to the life of a selfless and hardworking person, with a request for a contribution to pay for a bone marrow transplant for Min Gurung. If the transplant can be arranged and is successful, he will be able to return to normal life and to what he loves to do most – accompanying people interested in the beauty of the Himalayas on treks.
