The rain started on Thursday, September the 12th . The forecast was alarming, but that's often the case here. In mountain conditions, forecasts are often wrong. But on Friday the 13th, it was already clear that it will not pass. It rained all day, and in the mountains it rained heavilly- 120 mm fell on that day. Saturday was the same - another 150 mm of rainfall. The water level was rising.

In the evening it was already known that there is flood and there will be losses.

But the worst came on Sunday, September the 15th.

Just after 11:00 a.m., the embankments holding water at the dam in Stronie Śląskie have been destroyed. Over a million square meters of water began to destroy everything in its path, first in Stronie Śląskie and then in Lądek-Zdrój.

All bridges are destroyed or damaged.

Apartments that were not flooded during the famous flood in 1997 are now flooded up to 2/3 of their height.

The houses that were not affected by the Great Flood now have no walls and you can see the furniture like in dollhouses.

The scale of losses is not yet known.

Infrastructure losses will probably count in billions, but the losses of ordinary citizens will not be smaller.

During the evacuation, they took the most necessary things, and then the water took everything from their homes. There is no contact with most of them now, there is no water in the city, cables, pipes, everything are broken.

We are raising money for this first period - to buy water, hygiene products, food, shovels, gloves.

But also for everything we can't imagine right now.

Lądek-Zdrój has been a hospitable home to the Mountain Festival and its participants for 29 years. Now something needs to be done for our home.
