Description
We are a family that has faced the toughest of diagnoses. In September 2024, my beloved husband, Rysiu, was diagnosed with malignant tumors in both hemispheres of the brain - a grade IV glioma.
This is the second cancer to strike our loved ones. Our son, Karolek, was three times close to death - first after birth due to severe sepsis, and then twice due to acute leukemia, which led to a bone marrow transplant. We had hoped that after these difficult years, peace awaited us, but life has tested us again.
I cannot comprehend that it is not genetics, but blind, cruel fate that has struck our family again. Despite this, we do not give up - we play the cards that fate has dealt us. We pulled Karolek from the clutches of death, and we will pull Rysiu out too.
I have found a modern, foreign therapy that can turn a few months of life into many years. Unfortunately, it is very expensive - we need around €700,000. In the next 2-3 weeks, we need to raise €70,000. For us, this is a huge sum, especially since with a disabled child, we have not been able to save large amounts. We need quick help because the tumor is growing with each week.
During our son's illness, my husband took on the burden of supporting the family when I had to quit my job. He worked several jobs to provide for Karolek's treatment and rehabilitation. He always took care of us. I remember the day I called Rysiu to the hospital because the doctors told us to hurry so he could say goodbye to our son. Then a miracle happened - Karolek pulled through.
Our son's treatment was incredibly difficult. Rysiu carried him in his arms when he had no strength, and made him laugh in the darkest moments. We were told that Karol would be intellectually disabled, that he would become a "vegetable" and would not live to be 11. But Rysiu always remained optimistic and believed that Karolek would manage. This optimism gave me strength in the fight for our child, and now in the fight for my husband.
Today, Karol is 16 years old and has been in remission for 6 years. He has a great relationship with his dad, and they both love black humor. They laugh, saying: "It can't get worse, it can only get funnier." Our daughter, Kalinka, is still very young, but for her, dad is the whole world.
Rysiu is my greatest support and best friend. We don't cry over ourselves - we take action! We ask for help. You are saving not only my husband, but our entire family."
