Dear Sirs,

my name is Marina, I come from the province of Cagliari, I am a mother of two daughters and I work in a furniture shop. My husband is a driver, and together we face the challenges of daily life with dignity. I am writing to you with my heart in my hand to tell you about the difficult situation we are in.

In 2019, we bought my mother-in-law's house through a deferred purchase agreement. Unfortunately, the arrival of the pandemic and the ensuing lay-off disrupted our financial equilibrium, preventing us from completing the payment as planned.

In time, we still formally became owners of the property, but the situation worsened with the painful loss of my mother-in-law. My husband has eleven siblings, who, after her passing, turned to a lawyer to initiate mediation, demanding payment of the outstanding amount.

Our wish is to honour our commitment in full. However, the banks will not grant us any mortgage, precisely because the house is already in our name. Added to this are the legal costs, which we are unable to bear, and news that has further disrupted our lives: my husband has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia.

We are aware that my husband's siblings have their rights, and we do not wish to shirk our responsibilities in any way. We would just like a chance to find a shared solution that takes into account the situation we are in.

It hurts to see that, today, many of them turn their backs on us, avoiding even a simple greeting, even involving our daughters who have nothing to do with this matter. We do not seek compassion, but understanding and dialogue. We are honest people, and the last thing we wanted was to get to this point.

I turn to you in the hope that you can show us some help, advice or a way through this situation. I sincerely thank you for your attention and apologise if this request may seem out of the ordinary.
