LOGLINE

“To save a marriage hollowed out by discord, a couple turns to the ruthless advice of a thirteen-year-old who sells truths for ten euros on the stage of a mysterious, empty cinema. There is only one rule: you cannot receive a piece of advice without first having blindly followed the previous one.”

SYNOPSIS

Struggling with a lack of sexual desire and growing increasingly distant, Henry and Constance Lagaste try traditional couples’ therapy, but come away disappointed by its accommodating answers. Convinced that this isn’t the right place to find clarity, they decide to seek a more radical alternative. This leads them to the Cinema Rex, a place where a boy aged thirteen years and eight months offers paid sessions to reveal absolute truths. The consultations follow a strict rule: you can only access a new session if you have fully applied the truth received in the previous one. Constance, being rational and unable to cope with the impact of the first few sessions, abandons the process after just one meeting. Henry, on the other hand, continues on his own, increasingly drawn to and unsettled by the boy’s lucidity. His words dismantle, piece by piece, Henry’s conception of marriage, sex and himself. Session after session, Henry becomes increasingly dependent on that form of extreme clarity. When the boy turns fourteen and suddenly loses his gift, becoming an adult like any other – polite and accommodating – the mechanism grinds to a halt. Henry thus finds himself without that voice that used to guide him. Left bare, he clings once more to the very thing that used to drive him to despair, out of fear of feeling lost.

Hello everyone!

We’re a group of film-mad students looking for your support.

At the end of July, we’ll be shooting a short film and have set up this fundraising campaign to cover production costs.

The project originated within the film course at the Sangre Malo Film Academy at the Cinema Rex in Padua. This year, our screenplay was selected and voted for by the students to be made into a film, and the academy is providing us with a starting budget of 500 euros.

It’s a good start, but it’s not enough to cover the running costs of a film set, which range from equipment hire to set design materials and costumes. Our aim is to raise 1,300 euros to reach a total of 1,800 euros.

Every single euro raised will go straight towards the project. None of us will pocket any of it; we’ll use the funds to pay for the necessary technical equipment and to ensure the visual quality of the short film, which is inspired by the cinema of Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Any amount, from the smallest to the largest, goes a huge way towards helping us cover our costs and do a proper job.

A huge thank you to everyone who decides to lend us a hand, whether you’re friends, family or just passing by.
