Description
Ofelia is four years old and is a Persian cat that I recently adopted from a cattery, after she was taken out of the breeding programme and neutered.
She is a very sweet, calm and affectionate cat. She loves sitting with us on the sofa and watching her sister Camilla play... but she often can’t join in with her.
Ofelia has severe breathing difficulties due to the shape of her little nose: her nostrils are almost closed, and the slightest movement leaves her breathless and struggling to breathe.
She is fine when resting, but when she tries to play or get even slightly excited, her breathing becomes a huge limitation.
We are following a serious and responsible veterinary treatment plan. At the moment, Ofelia is undergoing aerosol sessions with specific therapy, but unfortunately without any real lasting benefit: the main problem seems to be structural, not just inflammatory.
Seeing her like this is heartbreaking, because she would love to live like a normal cat, but her body prevents her from doing so.
The next step will be to determine whether surgery can improve her breathing and her quality of life. It is a delicate and expensive operation, but it could allow her to breathe more easily, tire less quickly and finally play without having an attack.
I have decided to launch this fundraiser to give her a real chance.
Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference to Ofelia’s future.
Thank you to everyone who wants to help us, share this, or simply read her story.
Ofelia cannot ask for help herself, so I am doing it for her. 🤍
