Description
Last spring, I launched a “National Campaign to Promote Reading” across Romania, but using my own resources, I was only able to reach the southern part of the country. To be more precise, I managed to speak to children in secondary schools and primary schools in the Dobrogea region, in Muntenia and Oltenia. There are still many schools waiting for me in Banat, Crișana, Maramureș, Transylvania and Moldova. I would even go to Bessarabia. At these meetings, I speak to the children as a writer, because I have published the novel Hoinăreanu. Furthermore, I have been working with children for over 10 years and can say that there is a need to set up reading clubs in schools. School headteachers have welcomed this educational initiative. I have signed partnership agreements with teacher-training colleges because their humanities-focused curriculum helps students with their A-levels, as one of the topics is actually ‘meeting a writer’. The meetings take place in the school; I use their digital whiteboards to make the presentation more interesting, and I give them personalised Hoinăreanu merchandise. To continue this campaign, I would need 3,000 euros. I live in Bucharest and, although I have a driving licence, I have never driven. So, I would need a hire car with a driver to stay with me for around 10 days. At a cost of around €200 per day for the driver, car hire and petrol, that would be €2,000 over 10 days. Accommodation and food for both of us would cost €1,000.
