🐾Neuter for Change Kissamos, Crete

Equipment Fund 🐾

For 2.5 days in Kissamos, Crete, something remarkable happened.

Volunteers from different municipalities came together with the Municipality of Kissamos and veterinary partners Tierärztepool of Förderverein Arche Noah Kreta e.V. to run a coordinated sterilisation action for stray cats.

Every cat is sterilized, health checked, microchipped to the state, treated for fleas and parasites, and given a rabies vaccination.

When needed, the veterinary team also performs emergency surgeries, including eye removals, tumour operations and dental work.

Each cat returns to its territory healthier, protected and no longer contributing to the cycle of overpopulation.

In just 2.5 days we:

• Sterilised 159 stray cats

• Caught 169 cats in total

• Performed 41 emergency surgeries

• Reunited 1 lost pet with their owner

• Found 5 cats their forever homes

Independent volunteers, experienced trappers and local supporters formed one united team, sharing skills, equipment and responsibility.

For those days, boundaries disappeared — and what remained was collaboration, focus and a shared purpose.

And we delivered those results largely using borrowed equipment.

Now we want to build the tools needed to continue this work safely and independently.

Why This Matters

Crete faces a serious stray cat overpopulation crisis.

Volunteers across the island work tirelessly feeding, neutering, transporting and caring for stray animals wherever they can.

We know that systematic sterilisation is the only sustainable solution.

With the right equipment, coordinated actions like the one in Kissamos can continue and expand.
