On December 24, 2024 – Christmas Eve – the life of our beloved sister and her seven children changed forever. A severe car accident fractured her fourth thoracic vertebra (T4) and severed her spinal cord. Since that day, our strong sister has been paralyzed from the chest down.

After nine long months in the hospital, she has finally been discharged. But the relief is overshadowed by a new, painful reality: She is currently forced to recover and be cared for in a regular bed – no adjustable position, no protection against pressure sores. Every movement, every necessary care task is an enormous burden for her.

She is a single mother of seven wonderful children and lives in Serbia. There she now faces a triple tragedy: her paralysis, the inadequate care situation, and a healthcare system that provides no financial assistance for urgently needed medical equipment.

Unlike in Germany, in Serbia neither an electric hospital bed, nor a wheelchair, nor accessible home modifications are covered by health insurance.

What she urgently needs:

1. Electric hospital bed (approx. €2,500) – for pain-free repositioning and care

2. Electric wheelchair (approx. €4,500) – her only means of mobility

3. Accessible home modifications – shower, ramps, door widening (approx. €2,500)
