Description
The Baltazár Theatre was founded in January 1998. The core of its professional company is made up of disabled actors, the first and only one of its kind in Hungary. The works of Baltazár Theatre are created in collaboration with disabled people, but they are not about disability. Baltazár Theatre treats the existence of disability as a natural fact. We believe that everyone, regardless of social or health conditions, is an equally important part of society. The works of the Baltazar Theatre point to this, instead of emphasising 'handicap'.
The professionalism of the company's work shows that our actors do not fit into the traditional 'handicapped' category, they go far beyond it. Each of Baltazar Theatre's productions is living proof that common perceptions of marginalised groups can be transcended, that the values represented by each individual exist regardless of social or health status. This can happen because we strive for the highest quality in everything we do, whether it's theatre, photography or advertising. This quality is not to be judged "in relation to", but in relation to the absolute whole.
In the last 27 years, 29 theatrical productions have been created in the workshop of the Baltazar Theatre. We have toured Hungary, visited theatres in many foreign countries, and participated in numerous festivals at home and abroad.
In 2002, the Baltazár Theatre was awarded the Pro Cultura Urbis prize for its cultural activities. The Baltazar Theatre Foundation, which was also voted NGO of the Year in 2003, was awarded the Millennium Prize by the National Intellectual Property Office in April 2012 for its unique activities.
