Good morning, we’re Federico and Ilenia. I’m 23 and she’s 26; we’ve been living together for three years. I’m a chef and she’s a waitress. Over the last three years, the only thing that’s kept us going has been the love we feel for one another, because if we look at the financial side of things, unfortunately it’s not going very well. We earn the minimum wage for our jobs, which, like everyone else of course, we have to use to pay our bills, a huge rent, the shopping and all the other expenses that come with it. To save those €100 a month, I’ve even given up smoking and sold the car to cover unexpected costs when they crop up. We have tried several times to apply for a mortgage with many banks, but none would grant us one. We would like to start a family but cannot afford to pay the rent on a three-bedroom flat to have an extra room for the baby, bearing in mind that there would be significant additional costs for the child. Receiving this money would help us buy a small three-room flat where we could start a family without having to worry about rent or an excessive mortgage, and give us that little bit of peace of mind that never goes amiss.
