On Wednesday (19 March) at around 10.35 pm, a shack caught fire in a settlement in Veľký Šariš. Five people lost their lives. The Župčany Volunteer Fire Brigade reported the incident on social media.
The tragic incident affected 30 people
“Unfortunately, a great tragedy struck us yesterday evening – a fire in the settlement that claimed the lives of four young children and one adult. Eight dwellings were destroyed, with a total of approximately 30 people affected by this tragic event,” the town of Veľký Šariš reported on social media.
Emergency situation, crisis team convened
A crisis team has been convened in the town, and a state of emergency has been declared.
“At the same time, we are appealing to you, dear citizens, for help and solidarity. These people will need our support – both material and human,” said the mayor.
The damage caused by the fire has been provisionally estimated at €12,000.
