My name is Adrian Cârciova (illustrator, animator and musician), and together with my wife, Eugenia (illustrator, painter and graphic designer), we have been running Baboon Studio, a creative studio based in Bucharest, for four years

We need your support to bring the Povești de Cartier project to life — a comic strip inspired by the history of Romanian hip-hop.

Each story is told by the genre’s veterans themselves and is based on real events, interwoven with elements of fiction and humour

The comic will be 28 pages long and will include three stories — by Dacian, Brugner and Macanache, each bringing a unique perspective

At this stage, we have finalised the sketches and scripts for all the stories, and four pages are already fully completed, with outlines and colour.

This comic will not take sides, because we love all forms of rap and appreciate every sincere expression of free speech. We want to capture that pleasant nostalgia of the ’90s and highlight the passion that unites the hip-hop community, beyond conflicts or rivalries. We believe there are a multitude of valuable stories that deserve to be told 

The funds raised will be used to cover the production stages of the ‘Povești de Cartier’ comic book, a complex process involving:

-Research and concept development – gathering information, conducting interviews and sourcing visual references;

-Scriptwriting and adapting the text for the comic book format;

-Creating sketches and the layout for each page;

-Illustration, inking and colouring, to ensure a professional and consistent look;

-Graphic design and preparation for print, including pagination and technical checks;

-Printing, packaging and delivery to backers.
