Description
A future for the boys and girls of Kilifi
In Kilifi, Kenya, many boys and girls live in extremely difficult conditions. The reception centre Nyota ya Asubuhi (Morning Star) works every day to offer them a safe haven and a chance at redemption. The costs of sending young people to school are the largest item in the budget.
With your donation, we can help Stella del Mattino to ensure access to education for children, boys and girls, giving them the chance to build a better future.
Our goal is to raise € 3,000 (approximately 400,000 Kenyan shillings) to fund scholarships that will cover at least part of the school fees for the students at the centre.
Even a small amount can make a difference! For example:
- with 10 euro you can cover the cost of notebooks and pens for one year for one child
- with 20 euros textbooks
- with 50 euro the school uniform, including shoes
- with 100 euro medical and social emergencies that could keep your child away from school
- with 200 euro you can offer a whole year of education
During the trip we will make from 1 to 15 July 2025 we will bring the collected contributions in person. We will document the delivery of the collected sum and update each donor with photos, videos and stories. We want you to see the concrete impact of your help.
A small gesture can change a life. Kilifi is waiting for us: join us in this adventure of solidarity
"At Nyota Ya Asubuhi (Morning Star), we believe that every time a child opens a book, he opens the door that separates him from elsewhere. We also believe that a child who reads will be an adult who thinks. Education breeds trust. Trust breeds hope. Hope begets a better world".
NYOTA YA ASUBUHI (Morning Star in Swahili) is a registered community organisation based in Kilifi County, Kenya, that cares for orphans and vulnerable children, and is part of Koinonia Community, a secular organisation that promotes integral human development and community living. The workers of Stella del Mattino cultivate a culture of peace and solidarity, believing that all children in the world, regardless of their origin, have the right to EDUCATION, HEALTH, ACCESS TO WATER, HEALTH CARE and all other human rights. Children who have access to these rights grow up as independent individuals capable of breaking the cycle of poverty, gaining the strength to take control of their own future and play an active role in building it.
THE KOINONIA COMMUNITY is an organisation that works for the welfare of children, promotes integral human development and community life in Kenya. They have been registered as a Charitable Trust since 1996 and work in the areas of child protection, education, community empowerment and sustainability. They seek to address the plight of children living on the streets, the homeless, those living with disabilities, orphans and other vulnerable groups. This is done by following an approach that involves: rescuing them from vulnerable situations, offering comprehensive rehabilitation assistance and then facilitating their successful reintegration into their relational family networks and the community. Throughout this process, they ensure full support for their education, which is the key to unlocking their potential. In short, it is a secular organisation that promotes integral human development and community life. It promotes a culture of peace and solidarity by giving preference to the 'little ones' in difficult circumstances, the marginalised and the oppressed. Koinonia welcomes people from all backgrounds, finding in their diversity unique aspects of common humanity. That is why it serves African children and young people in Kenya, Zambia and the Nuba Mountains area in Sudan.
