Description
A fire took away the safety and peace of our home in a single moment. Although none of us were physically harmed, our everyday life changed drastically from that day on. The place that had always been our anchor — our family home, the place you return to — now requires enormous work before it can become that home again.
The damage is severe. The building needs a completely new roof, and the rooms were flooded during the firefighting operation. This means not only structural repairs, but also drying the house, renovating the rooms, and restoring everything to a condition where it is safe to live in. The costs connected with these repairs are overwhelming.
We are parents of three children who live in a boarding school during the week. Our home is the special place they return to for weekends, holidays, and Christmas — a space where they can breathe, feel the warmth of family, and enjoy the simple closeness of everyday life. We, too, live for these moments: waiting to hear their footsteps in the hallway, sharing meals, talking late into the night. The thought that we cannot give them the same safe haven right now is the hardest part for us.Christmas is just around the corner. This time of year usually carries the scent of a Christmas tree, home-cooked meals, and the calm that comes after a long year — a moment when we want nothing more than to be together under one roof. This year, everything looks different. Instead of holiday preparations, there are repair plans; instead of decorations, there are the marks left behind by the fire.
We are reaching out for help because we cannot manage these costs on our own. Every contribution — no matter the size — brings us one step closer to giving our children a home to return to, not only for the holidays, but for all the moments that make a family feel like a family.
