It was February. The day started simply… alarm clock, shower, breakfast before the last exam of the first study session period in his life. Unfortunately, during the preparations, Franek fainted. He stayed in the bathroom far too long. He couldn't move or speak. The younger brother, mother and an ambulance came to the rescue. He was hospitalised in a very serious condition. Massive cerebral infarction or stroke. In the beginning, everything happened very quickly, but there was little information. Doctors performed procedures to open the arteries, including thrombectomy. We got word that the chances are slim. We all came to him, parents, siblings and his girlfriend. Unimaginable shock and pain. How is this possible? He is only 19, after all.💔

The fight has begun. The arterial blockage was partially removed. There was swelling of the brain, high fever and pneumonia. The doctors did their best. To keep him alive, they put him in a very deep pharmacological coma. No sounds, no touch. We could only be with him and pray. We were given no hope. We waited, watched over him, and looked after him. We had no idea what he would be like if he woke up.

After a few weeks, his condition stabilized and he started waking up, for a week , day by day. It turned out that his left hemisphere of the brain was damaged, which resulted in complete paralysis of the right side of the body and partial paralysis of the left side, and severe problems with speech. Horrible neuropathic pains appeared, impossible to control, with them unimaginable suffering. The results of a plethora of studies and tests have come in, including a transesophageal echocardiogram. An atrial septal defect was found. He needs to undergo heart surgery.

Frank fights every day. His condition is slowly improving. He was transferred from intensive care to the rehabilitation ward. He has a great chance to recover. He gives his best and makes progress every day. However, he needs more exercise and daily rehabilitation with the right equipment. The first weeks and months are crucial. Time matters a lot. He has his whole life ahead of him and lots of plans. He would like to go back to university. He is supported by the whole family, his beloved girlfriend and friends. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we are unable to bear the costs of rehabilitation allowing him to recover. Days are better and worse, monotony overwhelms, but the fight to return home, to his loved ones is the most important thing. That is why we are asking everyone who wants to help him.

Please help Frank recover! 🙏
