Please help us raise the $1.2 million needed for Maikal’s recovery

Our youngest son, Tóth-Helli Maikal, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia at the age of 3.5 months. Whilst a large percentage of childhood leukaemias are now very easy to treat, his condition was caused by a rare genetic mutation (CBFA2T3::GLIS2) that affects only a few children worldwide each year (exclusively under the age of 2). Without immunotherapy, the survival rate for this mutation is only 15–20%.

His doctors provided him with the best chemotherapy available in Hungary, tailored to his needs, but unfortunately, this did not achieve the necessary success and did not lead to remission.

The current plan is to try an experimental drug, but based on the available data, it is possible that this will only prolong Ágoston’s life, which is completely unacceptable to us as parents.

There are no other treatment options available for him in Hungary. Only immunotherapy in the US offers the best chance of saving his life. The pharmaceutical company covers the cost of the drug itself, but we have to fund the costs of hospital treatment ourselves.

This requires at least two months’ hospitalisation in the US, which, for foreign patients without local insurance, costs approximately $1.2 million, including any emergency costs (~500 million HUF). We are asking for your help to raise this amount.
