Note of intent from the director
The Suspect project begins with a short film I directed and self-produced in
produced in 2018. As the general plot and characters worked well, I decided to take
decided to step up a gear and make it into a feature-length film. This feature-length film would be
be set exclusively in my home city of Brussels, which I know by heart and cherish.
cherish. The story develops themes and moods that I've been exploring for a long time
for a long time - stylised urban violence, borderline psychology of the roles
of fantasy, underground and alternative worlds, outbreaks of almost metaphysical madness.
metaphysical madness. In short, action and speed to dazzle the viewer - but with a humanist subtext.
humanist subtext. My references for Suspect are films like
"like 'Seven', 'A Day in Hell', 'Bad Boys', 'The Lair of Madness' where the
cities, their geography and their light are important players that go beyond the
the setting. The paranoia of the characters, never quite black or white, resonates with the times we live in.
resonates with the present day, as does all the music that permeates the film
metaphors for Brussels and its variety. Almost
all the actors are from Brussels: Dave Dimak, Moize N'tumba, David Jassen
Jassen, John Szel. Emblematic places like Anderlecht, the area around the Grand Place
of the Grand Place and the centre of Brussels (northern quarter), shot entirely
with drone footage
