Description
Following the success of the inaugural season in 2025, during which concerts were sold out and demand exceeded capacity by around 20 per cent, the ‘The Silver Swan’ series is set to continue and expand in 2026. The project impressively demonstrates that music and the visual arts, whether in dialogue or in contrast, appeal to new audiences and create a unique cultural experience.
The aim is to connect music, art and the audience in the moment in such a way that listeners are transported to another time. Location, space, music, poetry and movement are deliberately coordinated. With its collection from the 16th and 17th centuries, the Ludwig Roselius Museum offers the ideal setting for this. The founder, Ludwig Roselius, intended the design of the period rooms to allow visitors to immerse themselves in worlds of the past.
The concert series takes its name from a madrigal by Orlando Gibbons. In his first book of five-part madrigals, ‘The Silver Swan’ stands as the showpiece at the very beginning. The work encourages reflection and critical thinking, is rich in symbolism and layers of meaning, and yet sounds brief and poignantly beautiful. I wish to convey this feeling to the audience at every concert, which is why I include Gibbons’ madrigal in every programme – for the audience to sing along.
In doing so, I pay tribute to my role models, who have inspired me to learn, explore and pass on culture.
