Description
St. Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in the village of. Choba needs urgent repairs of the roof. The amount needed is 12 000 BGN, and so far 5 500 BGN have been collected from donations.
According to the archives of the Plovdiv Metropolitanate, the church temple was built in 1858 and a sultan's ferman was obtained for its construction.
The first school in the village was built in the north-west end of the church yard. The church remained intact.
After !944, like many other churches in Bulgaria, the church in s. Choba was closed for nearly four decades, during which time it was looted and half destroyed.
After 1990, the people of Choba managed to rebuild the temple and today liturgies and church services are performed there.
