Description
During our trip to Tanzania, we met Isaya—a man who lives as if the sun there shines just for him. His smile, knowledge, and optimism are contagious, and even the greatest sages could learn patience from him.
Isaya patiently answered even our silliest questions, vividly described the habits of the animals we encountered, shared local tales and legends, and always knew where lions snore the loudest and where hyenas roam at night! Right away, I thought he must have a degree in zoology—his knowledge of wildlife and ecosystems was so impressive that he could easily lecture at a university.
It turned out, however, that he comes from a small village and gained his knowledge through years of experience: first as a farmer growing sweet potatoes, peanuts, and sunflowers; then as a mechanic, where he learned to drive vehicles; and later as a ranger in national parks. For the past 10 years, he has been working in tourism, hired by various companies for minimal pay to support his family and six dogs.
To become an independent guide, Isaya needs to buy a 60-year-old Land Cruiser. Yes, you read that correctly—not the newest model, but a true veteran that can survive any African road (or lack thereof).
And here’s where the cultural shock begins. In Tanzania, hard work, though essential, is often not enough to achieve dreams. What in Europe might seem like just a matter of a few loans or savings is nearly impossible for him. Despite years of sacrifices and dedication, this goal remains out of reach (though he’s managed to save half, which is an incredible feat!).
For us, this dream is within arm’s reach; for him, it’s like climbing Mount Everest. And we all know that a person with such determination deserves support. Imagine Isaya in his “new” Land Cruiser, grinning from ear to ear, explaining to tourists why zebras and donkeys are cousins.
Every €, $ or PLN brings Isaya closer to his goal. Let’s make our support the fuel for his dream—literally and figuratively!
Together, we can help a person who truly stands out from the crowd fulfill their dream. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for every donation – even the smallest one!
