Description
We are Project of Hope, a centre founded in 2015 by Aswani Kizito, which every day houses, feeds, educates and provides support to orphaned, abandoned, disabled and children from families in extreme need in Kawangware neighbourhood, one of the poorest in Nairobi.
At the centre of our work is our faith in God. We believe that education, love and spiritual growth go hand in hand. Our children attend church daily, read from the Bible and learn to build their lives with confidence, courage and hope. For us, faith is the key to healing and a better future.
Today, 58 children urgently need our support to continue their schooling.
To cover their school fees for the next 3 months, we need €5,000 in total - about €86 per child.
In Kenya, although the constitution guarantees free education, public schools still charge "hidden costs": uniforms, textbooks, school supplies, compulsory contributions and meals. These costs, though unofficial, are essential requirements imposed by schools, and for children living in extreme poverty, they become an insurmountable barrier to education.
The new school term starts on 28 April and without this money, many children will not be able to return to school.
At Project of Hope, thanks to the daily efforts of our volunteers, we are able to provide free primary education, food, shelter and love for 83 children who live in the centre, and education for another 42 children from the community who come for lessons every day.
However, we do not have the resources or space to provide secondary education, and the older children (aged 11 to 17-18) have to go to public schools, where they are required to pay these extra fees.
Behind this project is a man with an impressive life story. Aswani Kizito was born in western Kenya, in extreme poverty. He grew up barefoot, without uniforms, without textbooks, without enough to eat-but with a dream: to study. Thanks to rare gestures of kindness from strangers and an unwavering faith in God, Aswani managed to finish school, get a university degree and a Master's degree.
When her son Prince was born with cerebral palsy, Aswani gave up her career and devoted herself completely to caring for him and creating a home for other vulnerable children, just as he had been.
Today, he lovingly and devotedly runs Project of Hope, a place where no child is left behind.
We know that, from a distance, it may seem like a distant issue, and that a small gesture may seem insignificant. But it doesn't. Every contribution, however small, can change the life of one of these children.
Please, if you can, help us build a better future for them.
Donate now and give the gift of education. Be the hope that accompanies them into the future.
