Description

My name is Sándor Juhos and I am from Hungary. In Győr, at 36 Török István Street, I have established a museum dedicated to the memory of the production and preservation of the Volvo Laplander C202 off-road vehicle, which was manufactured in Hungary. As neither the Transport Museum nor the vehicle history museum of the former manufacturer, the Hungarian Csepel Car Factory, has a single display model of this vehicle, as a result of 30 years of research and collecting, I have created an exhibition space where there is a restored and display-ready example of every C202 Laplander model ever produced. This is a major challenge and a difficult task, as only 3,324 of these vehicles were manufactured and distributed to 43 countries around the world. I tracked down the remaining vehicles, production plans, blueprints, microfilms, type approvals, brochures, photos, videos, factory scale models, models, toys and interesting parts, and created a museum covering several hundred square metres that is open to the public free of charge. I keep in touch with the owners of the remaining examples and assist them with servicing and parts support, as well as technical advice. I have been carrying out the preservation, repair, expansion, upkeep and maintenance of the museum and the vehicles within it entirely on my own for several years now. I have not received any grant funding or assistance to date. Visitors make voluntary donations to the collection box during their visit. I organise exhibitions and events, give talks, and take individual vehicles from the museum and exhibition display equipment to special events to introduce people to this globally unique piece of vehicle history. Maintaining the museum is difficult to achieve on our own resources, due to high premises costs and high heating bills during the winter months. Currently, several hundred schoolchildren visit the museum free of charge as part of organised monthly visits, and I provide information about the car, the factory and the stories associated with them to thousands of interested visitors. Unfortunately, due to the high maintenance costs, which are a difficult burden to finance, there is no chance of further development or growth. Every visitor who supports us will be offered a unique, personalised VIP guided tour. I ask potential supporters to visit the museum if they can, and to see for themselves what a noble cause and endeavour they are supporting. Please be assured of the significance of your support and how vital it is for the museum’s survival, so that it may continue to disseminate the cultural information of this industrial heritage site, and maintain, preserve and continue to present this legacy for future generations. As there are fewer and fewer museums of this kind in the world, my museum has also been included on the list of the world’s car museums. Please support the museum’s survival with a few euros, which will enable the Museum to organise visits for those interested who, due to their financial circumstances, cannot afford to visit museums that require the purchase of an admission ticket. I organise visits for children living in orphanages, those in need and the disadvantaged, covering even the cost of travel to the museum myself and making all the arrangements. Thank you for your support.
