Life can be turned upside down in an instant. During what was supposed to be a normal, wonderful summer, our beloved Erik received the absolute worst news anyone could ever receive. The doctors found a malignant brain tumour (grade 4) which is considered incurable. Unfortunately, with current standard treatment, only 10 per cent of patients survive for more than five years. The news naturally came as a huge shock to the whole family, and the summer has been an emotional rollercoaster.

In the midst of this difficult time, Erik has shown incredible strength. He has come through major brain surgery, gruelling radiotherapy and his first round of chemotherapy. Erik will soon begin maintenance treatment with both chemotherapy and TTfields (electrical fields). Despite everything he is going through, Erik is doing well under the circumstances at the moment. He has fought his way back to physical health following the operation and is trying to make the most of life and enjoy it.

In Germany, there is a modern treatment that is not yet available within the Swedish healthcare system: a tumour vaccine (dendritic cell vaccine). The clinic we plan to use is called LDG – Laboratories Dr. Gansauge GmbH. The treatment is tailored to Erik’s DNA to teach his immune system to recognise and slow down the tumour. Studies show promising results in terms of life expectancy; hopefully, it can give Erik several more good years.

Unfortunately, the treatment is not covered by the National Health Service and the cost is around 250,000 kronor.

Erik’s health and future are very important to us, and we will go ahead with the treatment in Germany regardless of the outcome of this fundraising campaign. We are able to draw on the savings we had actually set aside for a future home, so the treatment is guaranteed. We are launching this fundraising campaign with deep gratitude to everyone who is willing and able to support us. There are absolutely no demands or expectations – we are genuinely grateful for absolutely everything, big or small.
