Support for courageous family in Goro.
Description
I’m Angel. I’m starting this fundraiser because I recently met an incredible woman whose resilience moved me to my core. We met through our shared work in advocacy, and after hearing what she and her family have endured just to stay alive, I knew I couldn't just stand by. She is a leader, a protector, and a mother who has been stripped of everything except her will to keep her partner and children safe.
As they wait for a permanent solution through the resettlement pathways currently being explored by the UNHCR and the South Sudan government, their daily survival is at a breaking point. Here is her story, in her own words:
My Journey to Survival
My name is Morgan, and my journey began when I had to flee my home in Uganda. I didn't leave because I wanted to; I left because being a butch lesbian made me a target. When my own family turned against me, I ran to Kenya and ended up in the Kakuma Refugee Camp.
Kakuma was harsh, but it gave me the greatest gift of my life: my partner. She was there with her two young boys, and we became a family. But the safety we sought was an illusion. Because of who we are, the community targeted us and burnt our house to the ground. We lost everything and fled again, eventually reaching the Gorom settlement camp in South Sudan.
For a while in Gorom, I survived by carrying heavy jerrycans of water for people to earn a little money for food. But even here, the hate has followed us. The community has turned against us because of our relationship, and they no longer give me work. We have been completely cut off from the small income we relied on.
The situation is desperate:
• Health and Education: The boys are often sick, and because we are targeted, they cannot safely attend school. Instead, I try to buy whatever school materials I can find to teach them from home so they don’t lose their future.
• Health and Hygiene: We lack the basics to stay healthy. My partner and other women in our circle struggle without sanitary pads, and we are constantly exposed to typhoid, infection, ulcers and malaria because we have no mosquito nets.
• Total Isolation: Without the ability to work, we are struggling to buy even a single meal a day.
Despite this, I am not just looking out for my own house. I want to share part of what we receive with my fellow lesbian refugees here who are facing the same discrimination and hunger. We are a group, and we survive together.
How You Can Help
We are raising funds to sustain Morgan’s family and her community of friends as they wait for resettlement. Your donations will be sent directly to the ground via WorldRemit, ensuring the funds reach them quickly and securely to be used for:
1. Survival Essentials: Food, clean water, and medication for the children.
2. Community Support: Buying sanitary pads and mosquito nets for Morgan and other lesbian refugees in the camp.
3. Home Schooling: Materials like books and pencils so the boys can continue learning safely at home.
4. Protection: Basic needs that keep them from having to put themselves in harm's way just to eat.
Every euro counts. You aren't just sending money; you are sending a message that they are seen and that they deserve to live in peace. Please share this story and stand with us.
Thank you for your humanity and support.
