Meet Jas, our little hero, who has been struggling with the difficulties that fate has brought him since the very beginning of his life. Jas was born with a bilateral cleft lip, palate and alveolar process, as well as a pneumothorax. For the first weeks of his life, he was fed through a tube, which we had to insert ourselves at home to ensure he had adequate nutrition. 

In the interests of Jas, we decided to undergo treatment using the Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) plate, which helped improve the shape of his nose and lip and bring the segments of the alveolar process closer together. Putting this plate on was a very difficult moment for us. Jas didn't like it very much and often cried, but we knew that it was an important step in preparing for the surgery and improving his quality of life. 

In December 2024, Jas underwent his first surgery, which consisted of lipoplasty and rhinoplasty. Unfortunately, after the surgery, complications arose due to wound infection, which meant that Jas had to undergo three anaesthesias within three weeks. 

For Jas, cleft lip and palate mean not only health problems, but also everyday challenges. This defect makes it difficult to speak clearly, which is why speech therapy and electrostimulation are necessary. Jas also faces serious surgeries, including palate fusion and bone grafting to the alveolar process, which is crucial for the proper development of teeth. Long-term orthodontic treatment will become an inseparable element of his life. Additionally, Jas was diagnosed with hearing loss, increased muscle tension and body asymmetry, which require constant care from a physiotherapist. All of these stages require time, commitment and significant financial resources.
