Description

Let’s hear Hungary’s views on infrastructure!

My name is József Pálfi, and I have been working with tram networks, infrastructure and on-site faults for over twenty years. During this time, I have not only seen how these systems work, but also what people go through when power cuts, water supply problems, gas supply disruptions, road faults, street lighting failures or other infrastructure problems affecting everyday life become a regular occurrence.

That is why I would like to launch a nationwide, independent social infrastructure survey.

My aim is to visit as many towns and villages in Hungary as possible in person, and to give people the opportunity to share their own experiences. I would like to collect, organise and analyse these accounts in the form of face-to-face interviews, video recordings, letters or emails.

I do not wish to run a political campaign, nor am I looking for pre-written answers. I want to learn about the reality directly from those who live with the state of these systems on a daily basis.

The survey covers the following areas, amongst others:

– electricity networks and power cuts,

– street lighting,

– drinking water supply and burst pipes,

– gas supply,

– roads and transport infrastructure,

– telecommunications and internet services,

– drainage, sewerage and other local public services.

Another important aim of this data collection is to launch a nationwide trial of an existing infrastructure fault-reporting app. I would ask people to use the app, report any problems they encounter in their local area via the app, and share their experiences of using it with us.

The reporting app is available at:

www.deltasentinel.online

It is important to emphasise that testing the app does not replace service providers’ official fault-reporting systems, and we cannot guarantee immediate repairs or regulatory action based on the reports submitted. The aim is to understand what faults people encounter, how these can be documented in a standardised way, and what digital solutions could be used in the future to establish more accurate, faster and more transparent infrastructure monitoring.

What will the funds be used for?

The monthly fundraising target is 12,000 euros.

We will use the donations received for the following tasks:

– travel around the country and on-site meetings,

– fuel, vehicle and travel costs,

– producing videos, interviews and on-site documentation,

– technical equipment and data backup,

– operating, testing and developing the fault-reporting app,

– server, hosting and IT costs,

– processing incoming emails, videos and reports,

– data protection, legal and administrative tasks,

– nationwide communication and community building,

– preparing summaries, analyses and public reports.

I would like to report on the use of donations regularly and transparently. The aim is not a one-off campaign, but to establish a long-term, nationwide dialogue and documentation system.

How can you help?

There are several ways you can support the initiative:

– by making a financial contribution,

– by sharing the fundraising campaign,

– by sending in your own story, letter or video,

– by testing the bug-reporting app,

– by connecting local communities, towns and those affected.

Every experience counts. Even a single letter, photograph, video or bug report can form part of the national picture that shows where systems are working well, where there are recurring problems, and where change is needed.

I believe that infrastructure should not be discussed solely in terms of statistics and from behind office desks. We must also listen to the people who experience the consequences of these faults on a daily basis.

Please help ensure that these stories do not remain isolated, and that one of Hungary’s most comprehensive, direct public infrastructure surveys can be carried out.

Thank you to everyone who supports, shares or contributes to this initiative with their own experiences.
