Our Julek was born in May 2024 with trisomy 21. Julek was diagnosed with a ventricular septal aneurysm. Less than two weeks after his birth, he was transferred to a teaching hospital in Poznań with a diagnosis of septic shock with multi-organ failure and transient myeloproliferative syndrome (and it all started with a simple cold). He spent almost 100 days in the intensive care unit. Following a long course of treatment, including intubation, the decision was made to insert a tracheostomy tube. The day after the procedure, he developed acute pneumonia as a result of a bacterial infection, which prolonged Julian’s hospital stay. Our brave little Julian is learning to drink from a bottle all over again. He requires regular physiotherapy sessions. In addition, he must be under the constant care of an oncologist, cardiologist, endocrinologist and other specialists. At present, Julek is on mechanical ventilation and requires oxygen therapy. It is important to us as parents that Julek regains his full strength as soon as possible and can enjoy his childhood. We want him to develop and explore the world, because he is so curious about it.
