Maria is a 12-year-old girl who lives with her family in a small town in eastern Slovakia. Her parents work in agriculture and every day they try to provide the bare necessities for their family. Maria has two younger siblings and often has to take care of them when her parents are not at home. Nevertheless, she is very ambitious and tries to do her best at school.

However, despite her abilities and her desire for education, Maria faces many obstacles. Her parents cannot afford to buy new school supplies, textbooks, or a computer to help her study at home. At school, she shares old books and in many cases learns from materials that are already outdated. They don't even have a stable internet connection at home for the online classes that were introduced during the pandemic.

But Maria is determined to achieve her goal of becoming a doctor so she can help people in her community who lack access to health care. She knows that education is her only path to a better life, but without the right tools and support, her dream seems distant.

Like Mary, there are many children in this situation. Children who could achieve great things, but because of a lack of basic educational tools, their potential is often untapped.
