Who are we?

The Allodial Civil Rights Society is a human rights advocacy organisation. The Society comprises Dr Tiborc Richárd, a lawyer, Gábor Baranyi, a human rights defender, and Bálint Fodor, a human rights defender, all of whom are actively involved in our work – we currently assist a total of 250–300 families. We provide support to individuals and families who, in their struggle to defend their rights against the authorities and institutions, have been left to fight alone – people who cannot afford a solicitor, but who are entitled to their rights just as much as anyone else. We carry out our work in accordance with the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders and international human rights conventions, using peaceful and lawful means.

What do we do?

Our volunteers deal with each case brought to us on an individual basis: we provide legal advice, help with drafting submissions and applications, and support families throughout the proceedings so that no one is left to fend for themselves. We also make the law accessible, because we believe that those who know their rights are less vulnerable.

Why are we asking for your support?

Our volunteers work in their spare time, without remuneration – we never ask for money from those who turn to us. However, whilst handling the cases of hundreds of families, there are unavoidable operational costs:

• printing, paper, postage (submissions, registered letters, acknowledgement of receipt),
• travel expenses (court hearings, official hearings, providing assistance in person),
• maintaining our website and online presence,
• training our volunteers so that they can represent cases with up-to-date knowledge.

Where does your money go?

Every forint we receive is spent exclusively on legal advocacy work. We have no office, no paid management and no bureaucracy – your support does not go towards maintaining an administrative apparatus, but helps specific families in specific cases. We provide our supporters with transparent reports on how funds are used.

Even a small amount makes a difference. The cost of a registered letter can mean an appeal is lodged on time. The cost of a tank of fuel means that a support worker can be there for a family at their court hearing. Think about it: three people handle the cases of 250–300 families – your support means that not a single case gets held up because there wasn’t enough money for a stamp or a train ticket.
